COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Kokomo Humane Society is joining a nationwide program to help return stray dogs to their homes. The Paws in the Field Challenge will provide the shelter with up to five field service kits for animal control officers.  Kokomo Tribune

  • Amazing Thai (3015 S. Lafountain St.) opened today as Kokomo's second Thai restaurant. It offers a range of Thai dishes for local residents.  Kokomo Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • Two prominent 80s rock bands and the lead singer of the 70s rock band Grand Funk Railroad will headline the Haynes Apperson Festival—festival organizers said the event will open on Thursday, July 3 with Grammy Award-nominated Great White performing hit songs such as Once Bitten, Twice Shy, Save Your Love and Rock Me.  Kokomo Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Taylor High School will hold its senior awards program on May 18 at 2 p.m. at the school, and more than 40 $1,000 scholarships—along with additional grants and awards—will be announced during the event.  Kokomo Tribune
  • Eastern High School student Porter Stone was named an Indiana Academic All-Star by the Indiana Association of School Principals today+ he is one of 40 seniors in the state to earn the recognition.  Kokomo Tribune
  • Today, the Peace Scholarship Committee awarded three $600 scholarships to Kokomo High School students — Danielle Gome, Kelton Serra, and Kadin Smail — for their essays on peace and how to achieve it.  Kokomo Tribune
  • Ivy Tech Kokomo will offer a free four-day robotics camp for high school students in June — the camp is meant to boost interest in the college’s Smart Manufacturing and Digital Integration program.  Kokomo Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Kokomo School Board interviewed four candidates today for an open seat on the district's governing body and will review their qualifications before selecting a candidate (the board is expected to announce its decision soon).  Kokomo Tribune

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • A local angler recounted fishing near seawalls and piers where shallow, warm water attracts bass but some landowners have gotten upset over his presence—one even threatening to report him.
