- ➤ Local volunteers have decorated Seiberling Mansion with a 'Carols of Christmas' theme and will kick off festivities with an opening night lighting ceremony on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at 1200 W. Sycamore St.—Tickets cost $10 for adults, $5 for students and free for children 5 and under. Kokomo Tribune
- ➤ The Kokomo Housing Authority won three national awards from the National Association of Housing & Redevelopment Officials for its programs that fight food insecurity and help residents gain self-sufficiency. The awards recognized its combined Juneteenth and Summer Celebration, its Strategies to Self-Sufficiency Workshop, and its Summer Feeding Program. Kokomo Lantern
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Eastern Elementary School's Lego robotics team won its division at a robotics competition on Nov. 22 at Taylor University as part of the Special Olympics Indiana Unified Champion Schools program that pairs students with and without disabilities. Kokomo Tribune
- ➤ Gingerich, CEO of Chariot, was awarded the 2025 All-Star Award for launching the Automotive Technology Education Pathway— a program that trains high school students through partnerships with local schools and Ivy Tech to help ease the technician shortage. The initiative will continue to grow as more students join the apprenticeship and training programs. Kokomo Lantern
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local police and fire agencies received $10,000 in donations to honor fallen officers and firefighters after Kokomo Fire Department firefighters Jason Braden and Marty Meyers started a tribute in 2019—this donation supports remembrance of those who gave their lives in the line of duty. - ➤ Gov. Mike Braun recognized five Hoosier women with the 2025 Torchbearer Awards during a private ceremony in his office on Thursday — the awards honor their strong leadership and community work in our state and the nation. Pharos-Tribune
