  • On October 17, local leaders and community members met at Carver Community Center to discuss progress and inclusion in an organized NAACP event—Mayor Tyler Moore, Police Chief Doug Stout, and other panelists shared plans to boost public safety, education, and civic cooperation while a youth breakout session and Q&A encouraged future involvement. BUSINESS NEWS

  • About 30 minutes south of Kokomo, Woolly Yak Ranch & Winery features a historic home from the 1800s, orchards with pecans, pawpaws and persimmons, and wines made from local produce like pawpaw and raspberry jalapeño. EDUCATION NEWS

  • A freeze warning remained in effect until 9 a.m. EDT yesterday as sub-freezing temperatures dropped to 27 degrees in central Indiana and raised concerns for crops and outdoor plumbing—Eastern Band Director Andrew Sloniker recalled snow-covered band practice while the Eastern Comet Command will compete today in the scholastic state finals at Franklin Central High School.  Kokomo Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Daylight Saving Time will end at 2 a.m. Sunday when clocks will fall back one hour and employees working that night will work an extra hour (shift schedules will be adjusted accordingly).  Kokomo Tribune

HEALTH NEWS

  • After a severe flu season with record hospitalizations and 662 deaths in Indiana, the Indiana Department of Health is urging residents to get vaccinated by October 31 — a key measure to prevent serious complications.
