CULTURE NEWS

  • Greentown hosts its annual Trail of Scarecrows along Comet Trail as a fundraiser sponsored by Greentown and Eastern Howard School Public Library. Nearly two dozen scarecrows, from zany to patriotic, are on display.  Kokomo Tribune
  • A genealogy project at the library turned into a Kokomo mystery when research uncovered a missing War of 1812 sword and a cemetery mix-up that raises questions about a home built on graves—local historians are following leads to find Colonel Daniel Heaton’s grave and clarify records.  The Kokomo Post
  • Film reviewer Maceo Milligan examines Roofman, a movie about nonviolent criminal Jeffrey Manchester who earned his nickname after breaking through the roofs of many fast food restaurants — he was kind to his victims. Channing Tatum gives his best work as he plays the clever thief, and his on-screen romance with Kirsten Dunst adds warmth to the film.  Kokomo Tribune

ECONOMY NEWS

  • IU Kokomo will host the Futurecast 2026 economic outlook tour at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 11 at the Kelley Student Center, Room 130—Howard County community and local business leaders with IU economists will talk about trends in prices, growth, and jobs that may affect the area. Registration is due by October 29 and the tour will visit 11 cities statewide starting October 30.  Kokomo Lantern

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from Lewis Cass High School FFA finished second at the Indiana State Soils contest at Huntington University and will head to Oklahoma for the National Soil and Land competition from May 2-7 next year — Isabella See placed first individually while Maddy Willis, Landen Thorpe and Kollin Robertson finished 14th, 22nd and 44th respectively. A freeze warning is in effect from midnight tonight to 11 a.m. Friday with temperatures near 30 degrees that may harm crops and outdoor plumbing if not protected.  Pharos-Tribune

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Indiana Department of Health has started a Lactation after Loss Program to help families who experienced miscarriages, stillbirths, or infant deaths statewide by offering pump kits with an electric breast pump, milk storage bags and support resources. Nearly 1,000 kits were given out in August+ as part of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.  Giant.fm
