- ➤ Indiana University Kokomo will host historian Paul Renfro, who wrote The Life and Death of Ryan White: AIDS and Inequality in America, on Oct. 16. Today a weather alert warns residents of an elevated fire risk with dry farm fields and gusts up to 20 mph — residents should be cautious with outdoor burning. Kokomo Tribune
- ➤ The Annual Angel Walk highlighted domestic violence and child sexual abuse in the community. Organizers shared CDC statistics showing one in four girls and one in 20 boys may be abused—prompting calls for increased support and prevention. Kokomo Tribune

- ➤ Eastern HS student Claire Wavra received a 2026 Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for her PSAT performance — the award recognizes her academic achievement and brings national attention to Eastern HS. Kokomo Tribune
- ➤ Two women from Cass County — Elisa Banuelos, who works with English learners, and Nancy Rhodes, a retired nurse who volunteers — were honored as distinguished alumni and benefactor of the year by the Ivy Tech Foundation from the Kokomo Service Area. Pharos-Tribune
