COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Downtown Kokomo Farmers Market is held today from 9 a.m. to noon at Mulberry and Washington with fresh produce and baked goods available on its final day of the year. INDOT announced northbound U.S. 31 will close for pavement repairs beginning Oct. 8—drivers should use the S.R. 931 detour until repairs finish by mid-Nov.  Kokomo Lantern

BUSINESS NEWS

  • JoJo's Olfactory & Company now offers a fun space for locals to make custom candles—Holly Ward explained that Abby McDonald got the idea after a visit to an Ohio candle bar during her college days.  Kokomo Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kokomo High School announced that students who missed picture day or want a better photo may retake their picture on Oct. 15—students with a package order must return the original package. Retakes will take place during English classes so every student can have a photo they like.  Kokomo Red & Blue

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Howard County Superior Court I Judge Matt Elkin must resign by the end of this month after the Indiana Supreme Court ruled he violated judicial conduct and banned him from serving on the bench permanently. At a county council meeting earlier this week, he requested and received $3,500—an appropriation to cover travel and training costs for his court.  Kokomo Tribune

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Kokomo Humane Society continues to manage a Strep Zoo outbreak at its shelter. Dogs have improved with treatment while some cats are receiving care—forcing the temporary closure of the Cat Café until further notice.  Kokomo Tribune

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Pilato Kokomo is a modern Pilates studio in Kokomo offering classes for beginners, seniors, and moms with their children—its new space at 210 N Main St features bright natural light and is supported by Community First Bank of Indiana. The studio holds classes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings and afternoons, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Saturday late morning—giving residents many options to boost strength and balance.  The Kokomo Post

SPORTS NEWS

  • IU Kokomo’s women’s soccer team beat UCC at Municipal Stadium on Sept. 16 when forward Kaiya Money scored the winning goal in the 72nd minute—helping the Cougars hold a 5-3-2 record in the River States Conference. The team travels to the University of Rio Grande today and will host Oakland City University on Oct. 2.  Kokomo Lantern
