COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bakir Coulter became the executive director of Gilead House in September and now leads the nonprofit helping women overcome addiction and incarceration. She brings experience from the U.S. Air Force, teaching, and small business work—experience that she will use to expand the organization’s local impact.  Kokomo Lantern
  • The Royal Center community gathered on Chicago Street Wednesday evening as the homecoming parade began at the elementary school and ended at the high school. Football coach Adam Berry and senior team members thanked students for their support—introducing the homecoming court.  Pharos-Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • The final performance of the Kokomo Summer Concert Series takes place tomorrow at Foster Park Performing Arts Pavilion at 721 W. Superior St., featuring Everclear, Local H, and Sponge in an all-ages free show sponsored by Coterie—locals are invited to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets.  Kokomo Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo held its annual Dueling Pianos event at Hingst Hall on Sept. 19—raising $55,907 for local student scholarships that help cover tuition, books, and other costs for students across six local counties. Kelly Karickhoff said the funds break down barriers to education.  Giant.fm

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • INDOT installed four-way stop signs on Division Road where it intersects with Indiana 19 and Ind. 213 to improve safety—officials said the move will reduce right-angle crashes at high-speed intersections. This change was made this week.  Kokomo Tribune
  • Indiana began accepting applications Tuesday for three vacancies on the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission—Gov. Mike Braun seeks entrepreneurial candidates to help regulate utility companies and address rising customer bills.  Kokomo Tribune
  • The Common Council is reviewing today’s 2026 budget that boosts public safety spending as the police ask for funds to hire more officers and buy new tech like drones and advanced body cameras—while the fire department seeks equipment upgrades and station remodeling to meet staffing challenges.  Kokomo Lantern

  • Kokomo high school football reached its 1,000th win last week and now faces Marion, a team struggling with four straight losses and a stronger rushing attack & a key factor in the matchup.
