EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Area schools are starting a new diploma model that requires 42 credits and offers options for college, work or military—this model emphasizes flexibility and work-based learning. Officials say the change was approved earlier this month and the current freshman class will be the first to use it. Kokomo Tribune
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At the Howard County Commissioners meeting on Sept. 15, officials extended a design contract with USI to plan repairs for two bridges damaged by June 14 flash flooding and approved a deal with Howard Jail BOT to design a new jail at 2200 W. Markland Ave—officials also granted funds to the sheriff’s office to acquire a new K9 from Ultimate Canine. Kokomo Lantern
- ➤ Indiana Department of Transportation has announced new traffic patterns for Division Road in Tipton County beginning Monday, Sept. 22 — flashing all-way LED stop signs will be installed at the intersections with Indiana 19 and Indiana 213, and drivers are urged to slow down and use extra caution. - ➤ The Kokomo girls golf team advanced to regionals after winning the Western sectional at Chippedale Golf Course with a 390 team score that was 12 strokes lower than the runner-up—individual honors went to Peru’s Piercey Dyer who shot a 73. Giant.fm
