COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Zoé Café — located inside Abundant Life Church — offers handcrafted espresso drinks and pastries in a cozy space for reading, studying, and meeting others at 111 W Southway Blvd in Kokomo.  The Kokomo Post
  • Earlier this summer, Duke Energy and the Kokomo Rescue Mission distributed 100 box fans to help residents cope with near 90 degree heat in Kokomo—Northview Church provided bags of food while the Duke Energy Foundation contributed $2,500 for the purchase, and the event at the mission ran from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Kokomo Lantern
  • Downtown Kokomo will host the 6th Annual Post Party on October 3—at 210 W Walnut St—with a Halloween circus theme featuring live music, a magic show and fun activities for families. The event will also continue with an After Party at The Hobson starting at 8:30 p.m.  The Kokomo Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Distinguished Young Women of Howard County will hold its annual scholarship program today at 6 p.m. at Havens Auditorium — on the Indiana University Kokomo campus, offering high school senior girls life skills training. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management declared an Air Quality Action Day — urging children, active adults and those with asthma to limit outdoor activity until midnight EDT.  Kokomo Tribune
  • Indiana University Kokomo has announced new microcredential offerings that teach presentation skills, effective office meeting tips, business start-up advice and ways to incorporate spirituality in healthcare—courses that will give local students and professionals fresh opportunities to boost their careers.  Kokomo Tribune
  • The Circle of Ivy at Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo leads the state in giving as women fund projects on campus through annual membership fees. The group nears its 10th anniversary on Oct. 10—membership fees range from $15 for students to $15,000 for lifetime members.  Pharos-Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Kokomo announced that the Markland and Jay Street intersection will close Monday, September 22 at 7 a.m. for two days for a water leak investigation following recent repairs by Indiana American Water, and motorists are advised to take alternate routes.  Kokomo Lantern

HEALTH NEWS

  • IU Kokomo will host Indiana’s first mobile lung screening unit on Tuesday, September 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 2300 S. Washington Street — community members, faculty, staff, and students are invited to make appointments for a quick low-dose CT scan that might detect lung cancer early.  Kokomo Lantern

  • A Kokomo fall bucket list highlights local events such as pumpkin patches, corn mazes, festivals, and seasonal food treats — giving families many options for autumn fun.  The Kokomo Post
