- ➤ The Kokomo Police Department is asking for help identifying the vehicle that struck a parked car and left the scene on the 1800 block of East Markland Avenue—police advise anyone with information to contact Capt. Bruce Rood. Kokomo Tribune
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Kokomo Symphony Orchestra is preparing for its 52nd season opener—Innovation and Industry—and will hold the concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 at Indiana University Kokomo’s Havens Auditorium on 2300 S. Washington St. Community members are welcome to attend. Kokomo Tribune

- ➤ Kokomo High School students Avery Mable and Carter McClain joined a science class field trip today—part of the annual Experience the Wildcat program—to learn about water quality and aquatic diversity along Wildcat Creek. Kokomo Tribune
- ➤ Pioneer Jr./Sr. High School senior Mia McKaig is one of 16,000 semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program — she will need to meet further requirements to become a finalist for nearly 6,930 scholarships worth almost $26 million offered next spring. Pharos-Tribune
- ➤ Ivy Tech Community College will host a manufacturing open house for National Manufacturing Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct.3rd at its Kokomo campus at 1815 E. Morgan St—visitors can see technical and industrial programs and learn about local career opportunities. Pharos-Tribune

- ➤ Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales warned Hoosiers today to be wary of government impersonation scams that use email, text, phone, and social media to pressure victims into wiring funds—recent cases include severe losses amounting to hundreds of thousands and nearly two million dollars—Hoosiers are advised to verify details with the Securities Division before transferring any money. - ➤ On Sept. 8, the Kokomo Common Council approved an ordinance that sets a $10 monthly trash fee for most residents starting Jan. 1, 2026—this fee will rise to $15 on Jan. 1, 2028 and offers discounts for seniors, the blind, and disabled veterans despite strong public opposition and a 7-1 council vote with one dissenting member.
