- ➤ Tipton deputies arrested a man suspected of murder in Chicago last weekend—authorities say he was wanted for the crime. Kokomo Tribune
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ INDOT is accepting applications for its Engineering Scholarship Program for full-time civil engineering students at ABET-certified universities—scholarship amounts are $3,125 per semester or $2,083 per trimester and applications for the 2026-2027 school year must be received by December 31. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Kokomo will consider a $10 trash fee for waste collection services at a public hearing at City Hall on Sept. 8 at 6 p.m.—this plan offers a $5 rate for seniors, the blind, and disabled residents and follows a failed attempt last November amid strong community opposition. - ➤ Operation Blue Horizon, a political activist group, will hold a protest march in downtown Kokomo on Saturday, Sept. 6 at noon around the courthouse square to protest federal and state actions alleged to weaken democracy—organizers ask participants to bring signs and hygiene items for donation to Coordinated Assistance Ministries. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Reservations will open Sept 10 at 7 a.m. ET for put-and-take pheasant hunts that will run from Nov 22 to Nov 30—hunters must have a valid license and gamebird habitat stamp to join. Hunts cost $30 with a $1 tech fee and spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis at select Fish and Wildlife areas. Giant.fm
