EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Maple Crest Elementary School won the first Summer Reading Challenge trophy from the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library by having over 36% of its students join the summer reading program (which ran from June 6 to July 19). More than 3,300 people of all ages participated in the program. Kokomo Tribune
- ➤ Tipton High School band finished 19th at the Indiana State Fair Band Day and won Best Music in Class A with its show Rock Through the Ages. The band will perform at the ISSMA Summer Showcase in Kokomo on Aug. 23 and at Tipton's first home football game on Aug. 29. Kokomo Tribune
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Scientists have warned that Indiana’s weather may be repeating the conditions that led to deadly floods in Texas last month—where about 125 people died, including 25 children at a summer camp. Experts advise local communities to prepare for possible severe flooding if these weather patterns continue. Pharos-Tribune
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Howard County saw more accidental drug overdose deaths in the second quarter (April 1 to June 30) of 2025 than in the third quarter of last year, according to the county coroner’s office. The report highlights an increase in overdose fatalities over the comparison period. Kokomo Tribune
