  • The Kokomo Alehouse is hosting Bingo Night with a Purpose every Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. through early December+ residents can enjoy the event while supporting the Humane Society.  Kokomo Tribune

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Police say one person was killed earlier this month after a two-vehicle crash on the county’s northwest side—deputies responded shortly after midnight Aug. 6 near Indiana 22 and County Road 700 West, according to the Howard County Sheriff’s Office media release.  Kokomo Tribune

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Kokomo Casting Plant celebrated 60 years today when 2,300 employees, retirees and families joined a Family Day with guided tours and fun displays—games, music and a plaque were on show—while Mayor Tyler Moore praised the plant's work. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Honeywell Arts and Entertainment received a $5,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation for its Honeywell Arts in Education program that will bring art to pre-K through 12th-grade students in 10 counties during the 2025-2026 school year — the funding will help maintain school partnerships and align activities with academic standards.  Kokomo Lantern
  • Caston School Corporation was the last county school to start the 2025–26 school year when it held a Boohoo Breakfast Monday morning for kindergarteners and their parents to ease the first day split. The event helped set a positive tone as classes began.  Pharos-Tribune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Outdoor enthusiasts in Kokomo learned that Ducks Unlimited—founded in 1937—is a nonprofit working to protect wetlands and has a Howard County chapter led by Anthony Hughes and Alan Herschberger that organizes Gun Bingo in the fall and Gun Bash on the third Saturday in January to raise about $34,000 a year.  Kokomo Lantern
