Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 29th of July.
Good morning, Kokomo.
🏘️ Community
The Kokomo Municipal Stadium hosted 250 Minutes of Fun on Saturday, where children and their families played games and collected door prizes (small gifts given as they exited).
🎭 Culture
During World War II, local mothers, wives, and daughters joined the war effort by sewing uniforms, riveting metal for planes, and making parachutes while working from home.
Their contributions built a legacy of female empowerment still celebrated in our community.
The third annual Kokomo Comic & Toys Show filled the Markland Mall parking lot last Saturday as fans and collectors enjoyed a free two-day event with 70 vendors offering comics, cosplay and toys from across Indiana and beyond.
🌲 Environment
Indiana DNR accepted at least $109 million in wetlands payments from landowners since 2018, but many mitigation projects missed federal deadlines set by the Army Corps of Engineers.
The state’s program is now under federal scrutiny for failing to start required land acquisitions & improvements within three years of payment.
🏛️ Government
Indiana is drafting regulations to oversee companies injecting and storing carbon dioxide underground + the state works with the EPA to take over federal permitting authority over carbon capture wells.
