COMMUNITY NEWS

  • After years in Foster Park, the Juneteenth Summer Celebration will be held this Saturday along the courthouse square in downtown Kokomo — the event introduces a special twist for local attendees.  Kokomo Tribune
  • Kokomo Housing Authority and Carver Community Center will host the sixth annual Juneteenth Summer Celebration—taking place from 4-10 p.m. Saturday at Howard County Courthouse Square, 104 N. Buckeye St. The event will feature a best of Kokomo food competition with judging and public voting as well as live music from DeRay Boyd, Winston Howard and Maximum Groove.  Kokomo Tribune

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Keller Logistics Group announced today it will break ground on a 150,000-square-foot speculative warehouse at Grissom Aeroplex at S. Innovation Way and West C.R. 800 South in Bunker Hill. The facility — developed with ARCO — is planned to meet rising demand for flexible industrial space in the Peru-Bunker Hill corridor.  Pharos-Tribune

CRIME NEWS

  • Kokomo Police are asking the public for help finding 45-year-old Justin Neal — who went missing last weekend when he was seen riding his bicycle northbound on the Nickel Plate Trail from the 2700 block of North Reed Road.  Kokomo Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Indiana University Board of Trustees approved promotion and tenure for 15 faculty members on the Kokomo campus on June 19th. Executive vice chancellor for academic affairs Scott Jones said the move—seen as a strong step for the campus—shows the university's support for its teachers.  Kokomo Tribune
  • Tri-Central school superintendent and coach Dave Driggs retired (ending his 45-year career) on June 19 after serving the district with dedication.  Kokomo Tribune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Engie secured a 5—3 vote on June 17 to approve the Emerald Green solar farm project on 1,800 acres in eastern Howard County, allowing construction to begin once an economic development agreement is finalized. The project includes environmental safeguards such as extensive setbacks and a recycling plan for solar panels and is expected to bring significant revenue to the community over 35 years.  Kokomo Lantern
