BUSINESS NEWS

  • Tomorrow, June 6, Amber Jordan will open the new Kokomo Antique Mall at 121 W. Sycamore St. in downtown Kokomo, featuring over 60 vendors and a mix of classic and vintage items—renovations continue on the third floor to add more booths later this year—as the mall times its debut with the Strawberry Festival.   Kokomo Lantern

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Angela Opsahl is the new dean of the School of Nursing and Allied Health Professions at IUK today (bringing 34 years of experience from IU Bloomington) and she will expand nursing, radiologic sciences and occupational therapy programs (her plan to support local health needs).  Kokomo Lantern
  • Ivy Tech Kokomo is accelerating its paramedic program—allowing students to graduate sooner and support local emergency services. The community college will implement the changes soon to better meet the growing need for trained paramedics in the area.  Kokomo Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Tyler Moore proclaimed June as Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month on June 2 with a small group of caregivers, advocates, and firefighters—many wore purple and displayed pinwheels at local sites to honor the cause. He urged citizens to support Alzheimer’s organizations as the disease continues to affect many residents.  Kokomo Lantern
  • The Emerald Green solar farm project for east Howard County cleared the plat committee with one dissenting vote and will go to the plan commission on Tuesday, June 17 at 5 p.m. County officials said the site plan approval is pending a stormwater permit due by June 9 and an economic development agreement with Engie—steps needed to finalize the project.  Kokomo Lantern

  • 4C Health celebrated its 50th anniversary with an event in Howard County that launched its new Behavioral Health Champions awards. Dr. Teni Helmberger, Director of Student Support Services at Kokomo School Corporation, was honored as Educator Champion of the Year for 2025 for her work in supporting student mental health.  Giant.fm
