- ➤ The 27th Kokomo Strawberry Festival will take place on June 6 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. downtown, offering live music, food booths, arts, and family activities — advance dessert tickets will help visitors skip the ticket line. The Kokomo Post
- ➤ The Emmaus Mission Color Walk is set for June 28 at Riverside Park at the Carousel with sign-in at 8:15 a.m. and the walk beginning at 9 a.m.—proceeds from the event will support the Emmaus Food Pantry. Pharos-Tribune
- ➤ The Mother and Daughter Kitten Shower will take place Sunday from 11 a.m.—2 p.m. at Elite Event Center, 2820 S. Lafountain St, benefiting Kokomo Humane Society. The event will feature food, a cake raffle, adoptable kittens and professional photography — tickets cost $30 for adults and children ages 11 and up, $17 for children ages 10 and under and $250 for a table of 10. - ➤ Taylor Godfrey, from Russiaville, graduated from Ivy Tech today five years after a car crash—she wore her cap and gown and turned her tassel to the left during the ceremony. Kokomo Tribune
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Contract crews began lane closures on State Road 931 in Kokomo on or after May 14 for milling and paving between Markland Avenue and the south junction of U.S. 31. Lane restrictions are lifted from 3:30 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Saturday and work is expected to be complete in late July — concrete pavement restoration on U.S. 31 and a structure replacement project are planned later this year. - ➤ Hamilton County Libertarian Party Chair Lauri Shillings announced she seeks her party’s nomination to challenge Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales—she criticized Morales for doing very little for Hoosiers and her move comes just four days after Knox County Clerk Dave Shelton declared his intention to run at the GOP convention.
