COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Annual Summerfest will take place from June 20 to June 22 to support small businesses and bring together local residents—an event that continues a longstanding tradition of community unity. A special Tropicool Vibes Pool Party in partnership with Coca Cola will be held on June 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Kokomo Beach Family Aquatics Center.  Kokomo Tribune
  • The Haynes Apperson Festival will take place in Kokomo from July 3 to July 5 with live music at Foster Park—Great White will open the event on July 3, Night Ranger will perform on July 4, and Mark Farner’s American Band with Henry Lee Summer will headline the finale on July 5. The free event will also offer family fun through carnival rides, food vendors, and a downtown parade at 2 p.m. on July 5 that will honor veterans.  The Kokomo Post

CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown Kokomo hosted First Friday on May 2, with the library unveiling new card designs for children, teens, and adults and Artworks Gallery featuring a circus exhibit, silent auction, and a children’s coloring contest open until May 30. Live music from the Kokomo Symphonic Orchestra and Kokomo Civic Theatre filled the evening and previewed the Strawberry Festival set for June 6.  Kokomo Lantern
  • Kokomo High School students performed Grease on Thursday and will perform it today with a school version that drops risqué topics—bringing the 1950s story to life on stage.  Kokomo Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ivy Tech Kokomo will host a free four-day robotics camp from June 2 to 5 at its Industrial Technology labs for high school students, running from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sponsored by Duke Energy, the camp — limited to 12 students — offers hands-on classes and sessions with local manufacturing companies to spark interest in a future in automation and digital integration.  Giant.fm
  • On Tuesday afternoon, Dana Ayers—who began teaching straight out of college and has spent 38 years at Pioneer Elementary—helped kindergartners pack up their drawings and paper fish to take home, filling her classroom with joyful energy.  Pharos-Tribune

  • Today, the free Youth Mental Health Resiliency Summit is held at the Kokomo Thriving Center at Indiana Wesleyan University in front of Walmart with sessions running from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m.—sponsored by Mental Health America and Indiana Youth Institute.
