- ➤ The Kokomo-Howard County Public Library will host Story + Strategy: A Library Con on May 17 with games such as Dungeons + Dragons, board games, live action role-play, a costume contest, workshops, a vendor hall and an outdoor movie night at all three library locations. - ➤ Pioneer High School held a mock accident scenario on Friday before prom to teach students about the dangers of driving under the influence. The exercise was organized by the S.A.D.D. club and Bring Change to Mind club — local law enforcement, the fire department, first responders and Indiana State Police helped stage the crash and a mock funeral for one student actor. - ➤ The Howard County board adopted a nuisance ordinance on April 21 to fight blight by setting fines for abandoned vehicles+ trash and hiring a compliance officer who will investigate complaints and issue a 10-day notice to abate. - ➤ The IHSAA Board of Directors adopted new transfer rules that allow student athletes to maintain full eligibility during their first six semesters when transferring between member schools, with the rules set to take effect on June 1; a proposal to allow co-op team sports was voted down. The Board also approved girls flag football as an emerging sport–a move that will see the sport receive rule books, coaches meetings, and medical program coverage as it works toward an official state tournament. - ➤ Western won a 6—4 game against Eastern on Tuesday night at the Comets’ turf field after poor field conditions forced the game off its home field; Brady Comer hit twice while Gavin Denton pitched three relief frames to secure the win.
