ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On April 16th, police responded to a crash at U.S. 31 and Center Road overpass where they found a silver Chevrolet Equinox in a ditch and an overturned Ford Excursion that struck 41-year-old Charlie J. Bowman of Sharpsville, who was ejected and pronounced dead while Rebecca Henry was uninjured—an autopsy is scheduled for April 17th as the investigation continues.  Kokomo Lantern

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two groups of local robotics students will spend Easter weekend in Houston competing with teams from around the world. The Kokomo TechnoKats and Northwestern Cybertooth — local robotics teams — earned their championship spots at the state competition earlier this month.  Kokomo Tribune
  • Rylinn Spradling (daughter of Chris and Jessica Spradling) was named a new intern at Century Career Center today; she will gain hands-on career training through the program.  Pharos-Tribune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Stellantis’ four manufacturing facilities will host an electronics recycling event on April 26th when locals can drop off old devices at the Kokomo Transmission Plant, 2401 South Reed Road from 8 a.m. to noon. The event will accept personal and office computers, consumer electronics, office equipment, small appliances and telecommunications equipment in the southwest parking lot at the corner of Home Avenue and Lincoln Road.  Kokomo Lantern

FINANCE NEWS

  • Yesterday, United Way Serving Howard and Tipton Counties completed record numbers of free tax returns—768 Federal and 848 State returns—that brought $895,273 in refunds to local residents. The program saved taxpayers $208,000 in fees and helped families with an average income of $27,811, up from $24,000 last year.  Kokomo Lantern

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Motorists are urged to share the road this spring as Indiana farmers start planting fields with slow and wide-moving equipment. State agriculture, homeland security, and transportation agencies have asked drivers to slow down and give plenty of room so everyone can reach their destinations safely.  Giant.fm
  • The City of Kokomo is inviting proposals to lease and manage Municipal Stadium to bring back a baseball team—preferably from summer collegiate wooden bat leagues—and host community events. Proposals opened on April 16 and must be submitted by May 21 at 10 a.m.; the city will review them in June and finalize a contract by the end of July.  The Kokomo Post
