EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kokomo Musicale announced it is accepting scholarship applications for a $1,000 award available to a graduating senior this year. The Bernice Haynes Hillis Music Scholarship supports students planning to pursue music and active in school and community musical activities (applications began recently).  Kokomo Tribune
  • Faith Warren resigned from Taylor Community Schools and released an unedited statement today following the board meeting—she said an incident with masking tape was a fun play activity, not an angry reaction among students. Her statement thanks two parents for confirming her account and disputes false social media reports that had circulated earlier.  Kokomo Tribune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Indiana Department of Environmental Management will hold a public hearing today at 6 p.m. at Hingst Hall on the Ivy Tech campus (1901 E. Morgan St) in Kokomo to review Jaewon Industries' request to modify its air emissions permit; the hearing will end at 9 p.m. (or when all comments have been heard).  Kokomo Tribune

  • Yesterday at the West Side Diner, Mayor Chris Martin met with local League of Women Voters to share city updates and announce plans to bring back the Iron Horse Festival. He said the city is planning more projects for growth—helping residents know what to expect.  Pharos-Tribune
  • Hundreds gathered for a rally in downtown Kokomo on April 6. The event drew local residents even in rainy weather as Jennifer Price’s daughter playfully splashed in puddles while her mother watched.  Kokomo Tribune
  • The city of Kokomo is allocating its fiscal year 2025 Community Development Block Grant funds to local nonprofits and infrastructure projects— it expects to receive $732,040 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Development, matching last year’s funding.  Kokomo Tribune
