  • Kokomo local businesses and landmarks were shown on PBS' John McGivern’s Main Streets this month — the Greater Kokomo Downtown Association will host a free watch party at 5:30 p.m. April 8 at SUTE Korean BBQ House on N. Buckeye St. to celebrate the feature.  Pharos-Tribune

CRIME NEWS

  • Mayor Tyler Moore said a new annual report shows that crime in Kokomo has dropped due to increased neighborhood policing and careful reassignment of officers—saving $1.6 million and reducing use of force by 27%. The report also noted fewer arrests despite a small shortfall in the planned number of officers.  Kokomo Lantern

  • The Recycled Arts Exhibition is on display at the Artworks Gallery in downtown Kokomo—it runs through April 25. Local artist Alyson Hatcher-Kendall experienced a surprising moment while doing yardwork when she felt a golden wooly worm crawl on her arm, a detail that inspires her work.  Kokomo Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Postal Service officials in Indiana reported that 67 letter carriers experienced dog bites or attacks during fiscal year 2025—up from 53 cases in fiscal year 2024. They advise dog owners to keep dogs locked indoors or leashed during deliveries to avoid service interruptions for neighborhoods.  Giant.fm
  • State Rep. Beau Baird — who authored the bill — introduced legislation that passed the Indiana Senate to allow FFA and 4-H students in good academic standing to miss school up to six times a year, and it now goes to the governor. The bill aims to help students participate fully in these programs while maintaining their academic records.  Giant.fm
  • Last Friday, Gov. Mike Braun announced that business-focused attorney Jennifer Ruby would assume the state’s vacant public access counselor role to improve transparency for Hoosiers. A flood watch is in effect from this evening through Sunday morning and a wind advisory runs from 8:00 a.m. today to 1:00 a.m. Thursday — residents should secure outdoor items as heavy rainfall and gusty winds are expected.  Pharos-Tribune
