  • Dave and Terri DeNeal retired after 46 years of running their appliance repair service; Dave started as a teen and built the business in 1979 to serve local customers.  Pharos-Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • Kokomo Park Band will hold a free winter concert on Sunday at Indiana University Kokomo’s Havens Auditorium at 3 p.m. The performance, celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day with music by African American composers, is led by Artistic Director Jay Gephart; attendees are invited to bring donated care items.  Kokomo Tribune
  • Kokomo local theremin player Xan Van Hughes performed a gentle rendition of 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' from his home on the northwest side, highlighting his recent success + drawing community attention.  Pharos-Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Taylor High School now offers applications for the Sellers Scholarships, which can be picked up at the guidance or superintendent's office (or requested via email). Completed forms must be returned by April 15.  Kokomo Tribune
  • Tri-Central High School announced its honor roll students for the second grading period, naming freshmen Emma M. Reehling, Bennet E. Salsbery, Shaelyn R. Simpson and Roxanna G. Wilson after earning all As.  Kokomo Tribune

HEALTH NEWS

  • First Farmers Bank & Trust employees joined the 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Kokomo and donated $1,000 to support local Alzheimer’s programs — underscoring their steady commitment to community service.  Kokomo Lantern

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Jan. 3, the Lady Wildkats defeated the NW Lady Tigers 66-27 in a game where they built an early 15-4 lead and standout freshman Camryn Tucker scored 15 points. They will host Tipton (Jan. 20) in their next contest.  Kokomo Lantern
  • Portion of Washington Street will close Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Final Four Fan Jam organized by The Heart of Lebanon, which builds excitement as Indianapolis readies for the NCAA Men’s Final Four tournament after 2021 and before 2029.  Kokomo Tribune
